Sport Centre Business Improvement Manager (Internal Applications Only)

Medway Council is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Sports Centres Programmes & Performance Officer to support the operational management of our sports centres and help drive increased participation, customer engagement, and income growth.

This is a key role within the service, focused on delivering innovative programmes and projects, enhancing the customer experience, and ensuring our facilities remain accessible, successful, and financially sustainable.

 

The successful candidate will:

  • be a proactive and innovative professional with a passion for sport, leisure, and community engagement. You will have a strong track record in delivering programmes, analysing performance, and driving service improvements.
  • Have experience in programme or project management within a sport, leisure, or public service setting
  • Be confident using data and insight to inform decision-making and improve performance
  • Possess strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Be experienced in marketing or working alongside communications teams to promote services
  • Demonstrate the ability to build partnerships and collaborate across organisations
  • Be organised, driven, and able to manage multiple priorities

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the operational management of Medway Council’s sports centres, ensuring high-quality, customer-focused service delivery
  • Lead and co-ordinate programmes and business improvement projects to increase income and footfall across all sites
  • Work closely with communications and digital teams to plan and deliver impactful marketing campaigns, maximising digital and social media opportunities
  • Analyse performance data and customer insight to evaluate outcomes and drive continuous service improvement
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer engagement and satisfaction
  • Build strong partnership working arrangements to support programme delivery and achieve shared outcomes
  • Set and monitor performance targets to ensure cost-effective, accessible, and high-performing services
  • Review, develop, and improve processes to increase efficiency and deliver better outcomes

Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. These frameworks provide a mechanism for employees to take ownership of their development within their post and be rewarded accordingly. The salary you will be offered will be at level A. There will be further opportunity once in post to progress from level A to B, and B to C.

The person specification of a job profile is split into three levels: 

Level A details the essential criteria that all applicants must be able to demonstrate through their application and interview.  

Level B details the developed competencies that an individual who is practised in this role would be able to demonstrate and will be a progression of knowledge, experience and skills from level A.  

Level C requires the highest level of competence and applicants would need to fully meet and demonstrate all aspects of the job profile, including qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience. 

 

Sports & Leisure are seeking a Sport Centre Business Improvement Manager to join the team at level A. This is the entry point of the role, so you will need to be able to demonstrate the relevant knowledge, experience and skills to get you started, but you will be supported to develop in your role through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation. All elements of level A listed within the person specification are essential. Through your induction you will be introduced to the Career Progression Framework (CPF), which will help you to identify your areas of strength and any development needs.
